A Motorcycle Crash Led Me To Chiropractic
My chiropractic story begins like many others-with an accident. After a motorcycle crash at age 10, I realized that my left arm wasn’t working as well as my right arm. Since my dad had been seeing a chiropractor since he was 15, my parents decided to take me to see him. After a series of spinal adjustments, my arm came back to life. At this young age, I became intrigued with chiropractic because the doctor had only adjusted my spine and yet it helped my arm to heal. I continued with regular adjustments throughout my childhood, regardless of whether or not I had a “problem.” This led to my decision to become a chiropractor.
I began my undergraduate degree at the University of Iowa. In 1992, I suffered a back injury while working construction. Again, a chiropractor saved me. A series of adjustments allowed me to return to work (and therefore continue to pay for my education!). During college, I also began competing in weightlifting competitions. I know without a doubt that chiropractic kept me healthy and improved my performance. I even won first place at the regional competition for the Natural Athletes Strength Association, ensuring a spot in the finals of the national competition. After graduating from Iowa with a B.S. in Exercise Science, I began my chiropractic education at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa.
There's Many Healing Capabilities Of Chiropractic
It wasn’t until I was a chiropractic student that I discovered the true philosophy and healing capabilities of chiropractic. What I learned is that the human body is self-regulating and self-healing. It doesn’t need anything from the outside to heal; it just needs no interference with its processes. I realized that chiropractic isn’t about back pain or “cracking necks”; it’s about restoring the communication between the brain and the body so that everything works better. I experience this in myself and my patients every day. I don’t worry about getting sick in the winter because I know that my immune system is stronger due to chiropractic adjustments. Even with the multiple injuries I have sustained over the years, chiropractic has allowed me to continue to exercise and maintain a stronger and healthier body.
After graduating from Palmer with honors I practiced in Iowa City for 5 years. In January of 2004 my wife, Kristin, and I decided it was time to move to a warmer climate. We’ve lived and practiced in Henderson ever since.
When I’m not serving my patients, I enjoy golfing, exercising (I’m still a weightlifter at heart) and reading. My wife and I spend lots of time outdoors and enjoy hosting our friends and family who come to visit “Sin City”. I am a member of the Gonstead Clinical Studies Society. I regularly attend seminars about health and wellness, as well as hosting a wellness workshop in my office.
